

Mr Norrell believes in a strict adherence to rules and tradition, while Jonathan Strange is more experimental and open to new ideas. However, their differing approaches to magic soon cause tension between them. As the two magicians begin to work together, they discover the secrets of English magic and start to bring it back to life.


Bertie Carvel plays Jonathan Strange, a charming and impulsive man who discovers his own magical abilities and becomes Mr Norrell's protégé. He is highly respected in the magician community but has never performed magic himself. Eddie Marsan plays the role of Mr Norrell, a bookish and reclusive magician who has spent his life studying magic and collecting books. This seven-part miniseries tells the story of these two men as they navigate their way through the world of magic and the politics of society. In the early 19th century, magic had vanished from England that is until two very different magicians appeared: Mr Norrell and Jonathan Strange.
